Concierge Psychotherapy for Individuals and Couples

Personal Development · Trauma · Relationship Issues

“We are all much more simply human than otherwise.”

— Dr. Harry Stack Sullivan (1947), Psychiatrist and Psychoanalyst

Derived from the two ancient Greek words psyche (“spirit” or “soul”) and therapeia (“healing”), psychotherapy is literally defined as “healing of the soul.” Trauma, loss, and other difficult experiences can cause us to lose touch with our innermost selves, leading to suffering, feelings of isolation and disconnection. Depression, anxiety, loneliness, relationship problems, and lack of purpose often result from difficulty knowing and understanding ourselves and the dynamics of our unconscious. With “soul” referring to the true essence of a person, including unique qualities, experiences, memories, and desires, my process of psychotherapy is aimed at helping you reconnect with the most authentic aspects of yourself that have become lost or buried over time.

Dr. Alina Schulhofer, PsyD

My approach to therapy is relational psychoanalytic and founded on the premise that healing occurs within the context of a safe and consistent relationship that allows for the expression of your true self. As such, I believe that the quality of our relationships determines much of our overall well-being, satisfaction, and success.

The therapeutic process offers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the repetitive thoughts, feelings, and patterns that prevent you from living a healthier and more fulfilled life. I believe that you have innate knowledge that makes you your own greatest teacher.

I work with a variety of difficulties but specialize in working with men, survivors of childhood sexual trauma, and high-performers and ambitious professionals.

I firmly believe that internal change precedes external change; my way of engaging you in therapy is designed to help you look within for the answers and find healthier ways of relating.

I help individuals get more in touch with their inner world, learning to recognize and express thoughts and feelings effectively. In gaining a better understanding of yourself, you are likely to acquire more adaptive communication skills, manage emotions better, and feel increasingly confident in your goals and decisions.
